St. Ignatius Loyola
School of Retreat Direction
A Two-Year program to become a Retreat director
This is a twelve day intensive program in July 2026 and 2027 that forms directors who can discern well, listen deeply, and guide others with theological clarity and pastoral wisdom in faithfulness to the Church's teachings.
Year 1
Sunday, July 5 - Thursday, July 16, 2026
Year One grounds participants in
the foundations of Ignatian spirituality to
prepare for and direct the Spiritual Exercises
of St. Ignatius over a 3-day and 5-day retreat.
Additionally, students learn the essential
skills of spiritual direction: attentive listening,
discernment of spirits, and the capacity to
accompany others into deeper intimacy with
Christ.
Year 2
July 2027
Year Two, building on Year One,
offers deeper exploration, hands‑on
practicum, and real case studies to prepare
participants for directing 8‑day retreats and
advanced spiritual direction. Students also
receive substantial theological and spiritual
formation centered on Christ, grounding all
retreat ministry in deeper knowledge and
love of the Lord.
